Tips for Creating a Strong Password
- Never recycle passwords. Hackers love when you use the same password for everything or create a simple password using names, places, or dictionary words. A unique, secure password for every account is the best way to keep a hacker from getting in.
- Create a password that is 12-characters or longer. The longer a password is, the harder they are to crack. Shorter passwords take less time to hack and leave you more vulnerable to an attack. Once a hacker has cracked your password, they are able to quickly apply it to all of your online accounts and put your personal information at risk.

- Don’t save passwords or use “remember me” on public computers. Keep your passwords under the tight control of your password manager tool. If you are going to have hand written passwords, consider keeping them in a safe or a safe-deposit box.
- Don’t change your passwords, unless you suspect they’ve been compromised. Changing your password regularly does not have an effect on the likelihood of you being hacked.
